...It's stupid and it's not like I believe in it, but.
[ We're going to preface this by saying that he KNOWS it's hella fake and he doesn't need Ash to say anything about that. ]
It's a board with letters on it, that you use to communicate with the dead. There's the stone with a hole through the middle, like this one, and when you place it on the board, the stone is to move over the letters to spell out words. That's how you commincate.
[ IT'S DUMB AND STUPID HE KNOWS, HE'S NOT SERIOUS ABOUT TALKING TO ASCH ]
[ Half way through Ayabe's speech, Ash is lifting up the triangle and holding the gap to his eye. ]
...
The portraits on the wall didn't flicker when I looked through this. Like, Snowbunny's, and everyone else's who died. As soon as I looked away, they went back to flickering.
[ ... ]
It sounds stupid as all hell, but maybe it isn't here. You seen an Ouija board here?
[ He shakes his head and they won't be able to find one, but he still nods his head towards the mansion. ]
I haven't tried looking for one specifically, if there is one, it's probably up there with the board games. With the portraits... I want to see, so let's go there before heading upstairs. Maybe seeing through the stone is... I don't know. Maybe it shows how things are supposed to be, or... or something.
[ He doesn't watch enough movies for this. Coraline won't be released until two years later. ]
You think? [ Well. Once more you are his guide, Ayabe. ] Or maybe it cuts through any bullshit distortions or something. If our sight and senses are being manipulated, or something?
[ But, by all means. Lead them to the portraits. They can stare at some dead buddies for a while. ]
Maybe I should. Wouldn't be too subtle though, would it?
[ He puts his hands in his pockets and watches as Ayabe focuses in on Asch. All he saw before was a lack of any changes in the portrait -- no unnerving flickers, just the normal pictures.]
Does that matter? There's no need to hide it from people.
[ Unless he thinks they'd steal it. Jin Ling would probably snatch it right off his face because he wants to see.
Ayabe, though, just points it from the portraits over to Ash himself and then back at the portraits. ]
If anything else looks different through these, I'd like to know. Like any rooms, or... I don't know. People. One of the staff.
[ Maybe he can see who's a monster looking through these, though that's the opposite effect as the portraits. maybe the staff look like normal humans instead of furries through it. ]
We stole it out of the Master's desk. Most people get pissy when their stuff is taken.
[ Jingles would eat his whole fist if he tried to steal this thing, tbh. ]
Not too sure exactly what it's supposed to do yet, but it picks up on things. Couple of the doors on the third floor were giving off a weird light when you looked at it through this, but when Akira tried to go inside they wouldn't open.

What's an Ouija board? [ Let's start with the basics. ]

[ Just wear it on your eye forever so you can always see the Truth.
Anyways, dead buddies it is. He'll go to stand in front of... Asch's, ig, his is one of the less unnerving transformations. ]
HECK

[ But instead, he'll probably target Ash and smite him indirectly, as if he isn't keeping an eye on absolutely everything already anyways. ]
Your lockpicks or the axe didn't work on the doors? [ better this way, considering what was behind those doors ]
If there's any other places who are strange like that, I'd like to know.

[ YEAH THANKS AYABE. ]
Don’t think they would. They were different to the other doors — kinda like they don’t want to be opened? Bet there’s a way into them somehow.

[ He rolls his eyes because he doesn't believe in this sort of thing and is going to continually get proven otherwise. ]
We'll just have to keep trying.

[ OH. Same hat. All this occult shit is giving him a whacking great headache 90% of the time. ]
We don't really have any other choice. Except maybe giving up. [ which ain't an option. ]
